Regarded by fellow luminaries, Gilles Peterson and Rainer Truby, as one of the foremost music tastemakers in the world, Italian rare groove DJ Nicola Conte seems set to take his club jazz thing to new heights. Collaborating at a feverish pace, remixing for the likes of Thievery Corporation, Koop and Kyoto Jazz Massive, Conte seems never idle.
A celebrated DJ and Producer for over two decades, Conte incorporates a wide range of styles from ‘60s jazz to Bossa Nova to psychedelic sitar themes. And with surgical precision melds these styles with updated arrangements and gentle use of electronics to produce something unique and timeless. His album “Jet Sounds” catapulted the Italian jazz guru to international prominence when the album sold over 10,000 copies in the US and over 50,000 worldwide.

Their Remixed 2 compilation sounds off with a bang. Inside its slick packaging contains two CDs – one for the fourteen off the hook remixes and the other for the timeless originals. That’s 28 tracks, jazz heads. Not a bad ticket price either. The comp unites some of todays most reveered and ecclectic music visionaries of our time with a variety of both instrumental and vocal tracks from Verve’s storied catalog. The result are to say the least, sick. An awe inspiring collection of tracks which takes listeners to places never before imagined while maintaing the integrity and respect for the essence of jazz. Get it! Get it for the unbeleivable remixes or for the timeless originals, but definitely don’t let it pass you by. |
