Sri Lankan born Sithan de Silva was raised and educated in Ottawa, Canada. After high school, he enrolled in university in pursuit of a law career. But life had different plans. First a lucrative job offer from British Rail tore Sithan away from his books and over to the UK. Then a chance friendship with a local DJ opened doors to London’s huge dance club scene, at the dawn of the nujazz era. Sithan found himself at home in an amazing universe of creative experimentation - a musical Eden where cultural innovators from all around the world sought sanctuary and expression. Moving back to Toronto Canada in 1998, Sithan got an opportunity to share his experiences with television audiences when a local new-music show recruited him to cover the nujazz scene. When De Silva’s nujazz segments proved wildly popular with Toronto’s underground music aficionados, the idea of a weekly show devoted to exclusively nujazz began to take shape.
